Hornbacher’s Express in south Fargo to close

FARGO (KVRR) – A neighborhood supermarket in south Fargo that’s been in business for decades will close its doors next month.

Hornbacher’s Express at 1433 South University Drive is scheduled to close on June 27.

One employee said workers were notified about the closure on Monday. He says it was a “total surprise” to many of them.

Hornbacher’s is owned by St. Cloud, Minnesota-based Coborn’s. The company says the lease for the store is expiring and it made the difficult decision to close the location.

“Decisions like this are never easy, especially for an employee-owned company where our people are at the heart of everything we do,” Coborn’s CEO and Chairman Chris Coborn said.

“We are incredibly proud of the Express team and deeply grateful for the dedication and care they have shown our guests over the years. Their efforts have helped make this store an important part of the community, and this decision is not a reflection of their performance or commitment.”

Coborn’s says the store employs more than 60 full-time and part-time workers who will be offered positions at other locations.
