FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Many folks took advantage of the nice weather midday Saturday by attending one of the Red River Zoo’s most popular annual events.

The Safety Safari returned to the Zoo from 2 to 6 P.M. on May 30.

Law enforcement departments, first responders, and other safety-focused personnel were in attendance, having friendly, face-to-face interactions with kids and families.

Both zoo staff and safety advocates said that this event always serves as a unifying force for the community.

“That’s one of the big things that help the zoo thrive, is having community partners like these different organizations come in and support the zoo,” said zookeeper Jess Ryans. “It’s really incredible to see.”

“It is important to expose kids and families to these different services and community members who are helpers,” explained Katie Heck of Safe Kids Fargo-Moorhead, “so that if there were that stressful situation, they’re a little more familiarized.”

As always, admission to the Safari was free for all who showed up.
