Ribfest Wraps Up Another Successful Installment
This year's Bison Tailgate had a bit of extra pizazz as the team prepares for their first season in the Mountain West Conference.
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Saturday, June 6th at Happy Harry’s Ribfest was a hot day – but that didn’t stop attendees from lining up for the best barbecue around and a chance to meet players and staff from the NDSU football team.
The annual Bison Tailgate had a bit of a different flavor this year, as the team is preparing for a major move to the Mountain West conference.
NDSU representatives said the fans are eager to see the green and yellow test themselves against fresh foes.
“I think what it’s done, too, it’s invigorated the fanbase, and I think the program in a way,” said Troy Goergen, Senior Associate Athletic Director for NDSU.
“We’re ready for the challenge, and the saying in Bison lore is bring on the competition, and I think we’re ready to do just that.”
Speaking of competition, it was a big weekend for Blazin’ Bronco of Cleveland, Ohio, who took the 2026 Critics’ Choice award for their outstanding cookery.
Not only did Gary Carrino receive the honor on his birthday, he was able to represent the legacy of his uncle, Dennis, who wasn’t able to participate due to poor health.
“This is a really good show. I take a lot of pride in my barbecuing – that’s all I can say,” he said.
Fargodome staff say stories like that are what make Ribfest special – and why they’re able to build relationships with BBQ masters who want to keep coming back to Fargo for every installment.
“A lot of us have gotten a chance to get to know them,” said Sarah Dykema. “We’ve watched them grow, we’ve watched their families grow, they’ve watched our families grow. So it’s really great to see them year after year.”
The live music was also a big draw for Ribfest this year, with bands like Spin Doctors and FireHouse proving to be especially popular.
