UPDATE: Fosston, MN man dies after being shot on Monday, suspect is in custody

(UPDATE 06/09/26 1:45PM) — Cass County Coroner’s Office says the shooting victim, 31-year-old TeeJay Alvarez of Fosston, died this morning as a result of injuries from a gunshot wound.

Formal charges against the suspect, 22-year-old Cory Burnette Jr. of Fosston, are pending.

FOSSTON, Minn. (KVRR) — A Fosston, Minnesota man is jailed in Crookston and accused of shooting a man, causing serious injuries.

Police responded to a 911 call about a disturbance involving a gun at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Mark Avenue around 3:20 p.m. Monday.

When they arrived, they learned a man had been shot and was taken by private vehicle to Essentia Health-Fosston Hospital with serious injuries.

He was later flown to Essentia in Fargo where his condition is unknown.

Officers entered the apartment and located the suspected shooter, 22-year-old Cory Burnette Jr. of Fosston.

He was arrested without incident for probable cause second degree assault and discharge of a firearm.

Investigators do not believe there is any ongoing danger to the public.

The case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
