Valley City Putting Police Officers to the Test

Police officers vying for a promotion in Valley City faced one of their toughest tests, answering to the press.

Three police sergeants are competing to be promoted to Lieutenant.

Part of a lieutenant’s job is sharing information with the media during police activity.

The three candidates answered questions from reporters, including KVRR, about a mock emergency situation.

Police Chief Fred Thompson says it’s important for a lieutenant to remain calm and cool under pressure.

“If we have a large scale incident, in all likelihood the lieutenant would be summoned to the scene, and if I’m not available, then the lieutenant would be responsible for talking to the media,” says Chief Thompson.
 
The selection committee is expected to choose a new Lieutenant Thursday.
