People in Fargo will now recognize Columbus Day as Indigenous Peoples Day.
The Native American Committee rallied together at City Hall in hopes of getting approval from city leaders before the city commission meeting.
City Leaders approved the holiday four-to-one.
The date is set for the second Monday in October.
“We’re asking to recognize the contribution of indigenous people around the world and native people here in this country,” says Clinton Alexander, Chair of Native American Committee.
This move follows in the footsteps of other cities such as Moorhead, Red Wing and Minneapolis.
