Dilworth Family Escapes House Fire

Sorry, this video is no longer available

A Dilworth family is without a home after it’s destroyed in an early morning fire.

The fire started around 4 this morning at 904 Kroshus Drive.

The Farok family managed to escape with just the clothes on their back.

The fire chief says it was caused by careless smoking.

He is not sure if a cigarette was discarded in a plastic flower pot or if it dropped between the deck boards into grass below.

He also says if the smoke alarms hadn’t been working, it could have been a different story.

“The fact that the smoke alarms went off. The fact that they heard them, and they reacted very quickly, and just grabbed what they could. Essentially in this incident it was their kids and then got out. That’s what saved them right there,” says Dilworth Fire Chief, Mark Empting

No other nearby homes were damaged.

The Red Cross is helping the family.
