The Cass County Commission has approved its 2016 budget, with a drop in property taxes you probably won’t see.

The budget totaling $98 million dollars has increased from last year due to inflation and the increased demand for services.

Some of the highlighted items include additional sheriff and social services staff, as well as the budgeting for an upcoming election season.

The budget also includes a 5.7 mill reduction in property taxes

“Tax payers this year probably will not see a real break on their property taxes, because values went up so much, overall our taxable valuation went up about 12 percent,” says Mike Montplaisir, Cass County Auditor.

The total mill levy on county property dropped from 71.82 mills to 66.12 mills in 2015.
