Water Conference Addresses Drought

Despite constant flood protection planning, a Fargo conference is shedding light on the threat of drought.
The Garrison Diversion Conservancy District hosts its third annual water conference.
They say studies have shown that by 2050, the area is expected to have a severe drought similar to the 1930’s.
In order to minimize the impacts, the group has been working on a water supply project.
“Right now we’re doing an intake study over by Washburn and we’re doing an outlet story north of Valley City at the Bald Hill creek. The results of those studies will let us know what the alignment of the pipeline would need to be,” says Garrison Diversion General Manager Duane DeKrey.
If all goes according to plan, the group expects to break ground in 2019.
