As fall settles in, the leaves start to change color, the air gets brisk and the pumpkins are ready to be picked.

The Buffalo River Pumpkin Patch in Glyndon kicked off its opening weekend.

Despite rumors of a possible pumpkin shortage this fall, the Buffalo River Pumpkin Patch is more than ready for its busiest time of the year.

“We got timely rain and the heat that we got during the summer was good for pumpkin growing. Not only did we get a good crop but they’re very large this year,” said Mike Halvorson Owner of the Buffalo River Pumpkin Patch.

For families like the Orvik’s, coming to the patch on opening weekend has become a tradition.

“Family affair every year we love to come here and check out all the pumpkins, and play games and see the horses,” says Ruth Orvik of Moorhead.

Three-year-old Karlie didn’t have any trouble sharing what her favorite part of coming to the patch.

“What’s your favorite thing to do at the pumpkin patch?”

“Go on the choo-choo train,” says Karlie.

Besides finding a pumpkin that’s just right to take home, the patch features a variety of family fun attractions including a horse carriage and a kiddie train ride.

For those who are searching for the perfect pumpkin, they also have the chance to do it the traditional way by picking a pumpkin right from the patch.

But it seems everyone has their own reason why they love come to the patch.

“The ride was pretty cool with the horses, and picking out the pumpkins and seeing all the decorations,” says Allie Slinger and Chloe Olsby.

The Buffalo River Pumpkin Patch has grown more than 500 pumpkins that patch-goers can check out and take home through October 31st.

The pumpkin patch will be open Fridays from 3-6 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm.
