Grills Light Up for 4th Annual Scheels N.D. Barbeque Championship

Barbequers in Fargo took to their grills in a competition to determine who the best cook in the area is.

Grills fire up and the smell of contestants competing in four categories of BBQ ribs, chicken, pulled pork and brisket filled the air.

More than 20 contestants cooked their meat that was put into samples for the crowd to taste.

Spectators could sample and vote for the People’s Choice Award for a $3 donation to local non–profit organizations.

All of the scores from the four categories are used to determine who will be Grand Champion.

“Because I’m very competitive. I love to cook. I love to give people good food. So that’s what I do,” said Melvin Lewis, who won in the pork category last year.

Event organizers say the Pigtamer BBQ took home the Grand Champion prize and $1,500 dollars.
