Discovery Middle School students are bringing their most recent reading assignment to life.
Eighth graders are currently reading a story about post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of the Vietnam War.
So a group of Vietnam veterans visited the class.
They talked about their experiences before, during and after the war.
Students also learned proper flag etiquette.
Veterans say it’s important for the younger generation to learn about history from those who experienced it.
“We give the kids a view of what it was like when we were growing up a little bit older than they are now and talk about our experiences of war and just letting them know that freedom isn’t free,” says Larry Nicholson.
The book the students are reading is called “Stop the Sun.”
