The Cass County Sheriff is being recognized statewide for his dedication to serving and protecting the community.

Sheriff Paul Laney has been honored by the North Dakota Peace Officer Association as the 2015 recipient of the Lone Eagle Award.

The award is presented each year at the conference to an active and a retired North Dakota Peace Officer.

Recipients are nominated by fellow officers in the field for their ability to go above and beyond.

“You do it because you have a passion for your profession, and you do it because you want to make a difference for those who count on you, and that’s why I’ve always done things. I wake up every morning and I serve the community where I grew up how awesome is that,” says Sheriff Laney.

Officer Les Witkowski of Burleigh County was 2014 active officer receipt of the award.
