A man is in the hospital after being stabbed late last night. His 23-year-old son Peter Palmer is the suspect and is behind bars.

A father-son relationship gone terribly wrong. Twenty-three-year-old Peter Palmer is facing attempted murder charges against his own father.

“The victim did tell the officers when they arrived that the suspect was his son,” says Lt. Michael Mitchell of Fargo Police.

Palmer’s father was staying at this Econo Lodge in Fargo. But late last night, things took a turn for the worst.

“It’s still something this fresh we’re still doing some investigating trying to determine the motive if it was an impulsive act if it was a premeditated act so we’re still doing some investigating so it’s too early to tell what might have led to this confrontation,” Mitchell says.

Police found Palmer’s father in the parking lot of this Econo Lodge. And they say Palmer has a history of mental illness.

“The victim had multiple stab wounds to his arms and one of those stab wounds was significant and had an excessive amount of bleeding,” explains Mitchell.

After searching the area, police later found Palmer walking in the 400 block of Main Avenue and he was arrested without any struggle.

Palmer’s father is still at Essentia receiving medical treatment.

Police say these incidents typically don’t happen often in our area, but they do occur.

“We’re on the tail end of one that just happened north of here in the Ashley Hunter incident,” Mitchell says.

Police say they have made contact with Palmer in the past but it was not criminally related.
