Midcontinent and PCs For people have teamed up to give back to the community.
KVRR’s Brittany Ford has how they are they bringing technology into the homes of lower income families without a price tag.
Going back to school for many kids doesn’t just require paper, pencils, and pens but the need of a computer.
Midcontinent and PC for People held a computer giveaway at the downtown Fargo library to help those in need.
Preselected lower income families received a new computer and affordable internet service.
“Particularly excited about our broadband lifeline program that provides 9.95 internet for fold in the community that need that as well. Especially for kids going back to school this time of the year need them all to have access to the internet in this day and age,” said Justin Forde, Midcontinent Director of Public Affairs.
Lucy Houle and her two sons just recently moved to the metro.
She says not only will the new computer help her find a job, but also will help her sons excel in school.
“It will help my son, because he has difficulties learning in school. So right away it will help him for math problems calculator wise, and my other son,” said Lucy Houle.
Her son Trey says the luxury of having a computer in his own home is what he is most excited about.
“It feels great because then we don’t have to walk, like to a school, and like to the library here,” he says.
PC’s for People, a nonprofit based out St. Paul, will be opening its first store in Fargo later this week.
The store will provide lower income families access to computers at affordable rates.
