Hometown Favorites: Maplewood State Park

The weather has been picture perfect this summer for a getaway to some of our local state parks.
“The fresh open air and the many lakes are some of the reasons why we’re at Maplewood State Park for this week’s hometown favorites.”
Addie Rossow is hanging out with the Van Vleet family at Maplewood State Park.
She enjoys hiking and says this park is one of her favorites.
“It was really cool. There was a lot of different flowers and stuff to see as you’re walking and it’s different because there’s like, instead of just walking down one kind of path it like changes a lot and so it’s like a lot of terrain I guess,” said Rossow of West Fargo.
Park officials say the weather has helped the park with visitors this summer.
“Every week of the summer has improved. We are looking at attendance, that’s over 11 percent higher than last year,” said Park Manager Donald Del Greco.
It’s a park where the prairies meet the woods, and leaders enjoy sharing the unique ecosystem.
“Connecting people to nature, welcoming people to come and explore the great outdoors and learn about the different recreation opportunities,” said Del Greco.
Margene Newton loves to capture photos at the park.
She made sure the park won by helping out with voting on our website.
She captured this sunset few weeks ago.
“I love this park. I come here all the time. I try to come here at least once a month,” said Newton of Fergus Falls.
It’s a park with a lot to offer.
“Instead of just like one like place to go, there’s so many different things that you can go and see and then there’s the of course the lakes and swimming areas,” said Rossow.
“And that’s why some of our viewers prefer going to Maplewood State Park, and I think I’m a little hungry for a taco now, so make sure to log on to KVRR.com to vote for next week’s hometown favorite place to get a taco.”
