“Above and Beyond the Call”: Remembering Becker County Dispatcher Marv Anderson

Sorry, this video is no longer available

60-year-old Marv Anderson died after swimming in Wymer Lake in Frazee on Monday.

According to law enforcement, it’s not clear at this point if Anderson died of drowning or a medical issue.

Anderson was taken to St. Mary’s hospital on Monday where he later died.

It’s a devastating loss for not only his family but the entire community.

“It is a hard loss.”

Spending the afternoon on the lake Monday with family, Marv Anderson jumped into the water to swim to shore after their pontoon had mechanical issues.

But he never made it, he became unresponsive and now it’s hard for his friends and co-workers to cope with the loss.

“When we found out where it happened, we were really shocked…because, you know, he loved the water,” says Becker County Sheriff Todd Glander.

Anderson volunteered at the Frazee Rescue Squad and worked as a Becker County Sheriff’s dispatcher for many years.

“He always came in with a smile, you know ready to go to work, always left with a smile and he made sure that other people were smiling before he left,” said Sheriff Glander.

One friend spoke with Anderson that day and says she never to hear from him again.

She says Marv was the type of guy to go the extra mile.

“He had answered a 911 call and just sent whoever to the person’s place, but then he left work and he went there himself…to make sure everything was okay…above and beyond the call…of just a dispatcher,” says Diane Mistelske, friend of Marv’s.

When he wasn’t working, those who knew him say one of his favorite spots was on the lake.

“We’re fishing at the same location and a friend of his wasn’t doing very well, physically he was ill…and he made sure that his friend came with and helped him do everything…and that’s just a testament to the kind of guy he was,” said Sheriff Glander.

Those who knew him say Marv was the person that made sure no one was left behind…and that he was always there to help others.

We send our condolences to the family and all who knew Mr. Anderson.
