Prepare For WE Fest Traffic

WE Fest is right around the corner meaning major traffic in Detroit Lakes.

Tens of thousands of visitors will attend WE Fest at Soo Pass Ranch.

If you don’t plan ahead, you might get stuck in some bad traffic.

Some have been camping out since this morning to avoid just that.

Long time WE Fest goer Nancy Arneson said,”It will get insane the campers will be lined up, like last year we were 60 campers back and we didn’t plan as well.”

Highway 10 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction during the festival, and the bridge to the grounds is expected to be slow moving, as well.

But downtown construction should be minimal. Washington Avenue is opening up this week.

D-L City Administrator Bob Louiseau said,”We’ve talked to the sheriff’s department the highway patrol, in terms of managing the traffic and dealing with that and I think they’re pretty well prepared and our crews are ready to go.”

You can’t avoid all the traffic but city staff says they have some tips

“Head out a little early, that’s a given and just be patient, and you’re here to enjoy yourself,” said Louiseau

To help avoid the frustration, they recommend considering other routes, such as heading southbound on Highway 59, Highway 34 and Interstate 94.

I asked if it’s worth it, Arneson replied, “It’s so worth it, love we fest!”
