In His Defense: Hampton Takes the Stand

Christopher Hampton takes the stand in his own defense.
The Fargo man is on trial for the murder of his cousin.
KVRR’s Brittany Ford tells us what Hampton had to say.
Holding back tears, Hampton described to the jury how an argument with his cousin, Randall Doehner, turned deadly.
The defense characterized Doehner as an aggressive drug and alcohol addict.
They say he was dishonorably discharged from the Marines for his abusive tendencies.
“Because my cousin grabbed my neck, and I knew what he was capable of,” says Christopher Hampton.
Hampton showed the jury the minimal space where the physical struggle for the gun took place.
Something the prosecution stated the house showed no sign of.
“The defense appealed to the jury’s emotions by showing Hampton’s remorse after the shooting, and the love relationship that he and his cousin once had.”
“O-M-G is my cousin okay I can’t believe this sh** happened man. Didn’t make me feel good at all. I don’t like it. His family is my family everybody’s at a loss,” says Hampton
As the prosecution cross-examined Hampton, they focused on the inconsistent statements of his 911 calls.
They also claimed that jealously was the motivation behind the shooting.
Hampton’s girlfriend shared with police that he accused her of having an affair with his cousin.
The case will continue tomorrow.
