Senator Heidi Heitkamp is continuing her fight against human trafficking in North Dakota.
Heitkamp recently toured the western part of the state with anti-human trafficking leader Cindy McCain, the wife of Arizona Sen. John McCain.
They met with tribal leaders, victim’s advocates and law enforcement.
The two talked about how to combat the rising problem of human trafficking in the area.
Heitkamp says everyone in the state has to work together on this issue.
“We spent a lot of time visiting with businesses and as a business owner herself she started talking about what activities she was undergoing with her employees to encourage them to not be participants in terms of buying commercial sex,” says Sen. Heitkamp.
Heitkamp also says there are specific dangers Native American women face not just in the U.S. but around the world.
