Joining other cities across the country, people in the metro celebrate July as Parks and Recreation Month.

Moorhead, Fargo and West Fargo mayors proclaimed the month of July as Parks and Recreation month to encourage people to get outside and get active in the parks.

The event was held at the North Side Softball Complex in north Fargo to showcase the fields that are to be done next spring.

Each park district in the area is hosting extra events to celebrate the month.

Dave Leker from Fargo District Parks said, “The upper mid-west in general, people like outdoor activities, they lead a healthy life style, so we’re just trying to promote that. In North Dakota and Minnesota you have a great opportunity to have some really great parks and really great programs.”
