Some in Moorhead are letting people know that recovery from addiction is possible, with rocking chairs.
reGROUP, a recovery community organization hosted their Recovery Rocks event.
These sounds, are more than just honks for this group of people in Moorhead.
For John Roberts and many others, they symbolize people gaining awareness of addiction recovery.
“I’ve had long term recovery for more than five years now and what that’s enabled me to do is bring health to my family. It’s enabled me to continue, or pursue my vocation,” said Roberts.
Roberts is a pastor in Moorhead.
He’s taking part in the reGROUP Recovery Rocks event.
People are rocking it out to gain attention and donations for addiction recovery.
“It affects everybody’s life whether it’s a family member or you yourself are struggling with the disease of addiction,” said organizer Denise Peterson.
The event is organized by reGROUP, a place where someone struggling with addiction can get help from their peers.
Officials say millions of Americans are struggling with addiction and volunteers want people to know that you don’t have to be embarrassed to get help.
“We’re trying to break through that wall. To let folks know that recovery works,” said Roberts.
It’s an event where people who know the struggles of addiction can spread the word about recovery.
Staff and volunteers were on Main Avenue from 7 AM to 7 PM.
This was the group’s first ever rock–a–thon.
