Teschuk Wins Canadian National Title

 On Friday night at the Canadian Track & Field Championships, North Dakota State junior Erin Teschuk added two more entries to her ever-growing list of accomplishments.Canadian national champion.World Championships qualifier.Teschuk won the Canadian title in the 3,000m steeplechase in 9:54.18, earning an automatic qualifying spot on Team Canada at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing, China. She becomes the first current NDSU athlete to qualify for the World Championships – the track & field equivalent of the Olympics.Teschuk’s winning time was a new Canadian National Championships meet record by 1.53 seconds. She tailed Geneviève Lalonde, the second-fastest woman in Canadian history, for the first 2600 meters before bursting into the lead with one lap remaining. Teschuk’s finishing kick locked up an easy victory.The world semifinals of the 3,000m steeplechase will race on the morning of Monday, Aug. 24, in Beijing – or 8:45 p.m. (CT)on Sunday, Aug. 23.Teschuk had previously clocked two races under the IAAF standard of 9:44.00 to be in position to qualify for the World Championships.The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native earned three top-eight national finishes this season, giving her the most first-team All-America honors by any Bison athlete at the Division I level.
