Fishing Season is Officially Open

It’s practically an official holiday in Minnesota. Around 500,000 anglers are expected to hit the water as the walleye season opens in the Land of 10,000 lakes this weekend.

Lake Vermilion hosted Saturday’s 68th annual Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener, headquartered at Fortune Bay Casino in Tower.

Gov. Mark Dayton went out with local guide Tim “Buck” Lescarbeau as well as Democratic Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk and Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt.

Dayton caught the first fish of the day along with eight others.
