Governor Jack Dalrymple awards the city of Grand Forks an additional 5.6 million dollars in state funding towards the development of Grand Sky.
The funding is to ensure that North Dakota furthers its position as the nation’s leader in UAS research and development.
The complex for unmanned aircraft systems is under construction and will occupy more than 200 acres adjacent to the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
It is designated by the FAA as one of six drone test sites in the nation.
“It’s a very big deal to actually build an industry from scratch, and that’s exactly what we’re doing in Grand Forks. This is a breakthrough project we are the first certified air space in the Unites States.”
The state has already invested 30-million dollars toward the development of Grand Sky.
