Fargo’s 2016 preliminary budget is in.
Mayor Mahoney presented the proposed $94 million budget to the commission.
It is over $4 million higher than last year.
Mahoney says the increase is expected due to the city’s rapid growth.
Some of the emerging budget issues include continuing flood protection, the new city hall and paying the federal government back for what is now the municipal court.
“The biggest part is trying to figure out what the real needs were. So often times someone would come and present to us and we’d go through that and then you’d go back and get more data on it and say do you really need this person or what else could we do,” Mahoney says.
You can weigh in on the budget at the city commission meeting on Monday.
The final budget is expected to be approved by October 7th.
