John D. Odegard to be Honored with Rough Rider Award
Aviation pioneer John D. Odegard has been named the 42nd recipient of the North Dakota Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award.
Odegard died in 1998 so the state’s highest honor will be presented to his family at a ceremony in Grand Forks on October 15.
Odegard, a Minot native, was the founder of UND’s aerospace school that bears his name.
The school started with a pair of donated aircraft and 12 students.
It grew to become a respected aerospace education program.
