Identity of Man Shot by Fargo Police Released

We now know the identity of a man shot by a Fargo police officer after he was stopped driving the wrong-way down 13th avenue south early Monday.

Police say Karmen Redshirt of Bismarck was shot three times by Officer Patrick Thomas.

He remains in Essentia.

Redshirt is charged in Cass County District Court with terrorizing, theft and reckless endangerment.

Police say Redshirt pointed a real looking gun at Thomas and the officer ordered him to drop it.

When he didn’t, the officer opened fire.

It was later discovered that Redshirt’s weapon was a BB or pellet gun.

Thomas is on leave while the case is being investigated.

He was the NDSU officer who accidentally shot himself in the arm while off duty in 2013.
