Stenehjem: NDSU Police Didn’t Divert Money to Fargo
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says NDSU Police did not illegally divert money collected from fines and fees to the city of Fargo.
State Rep. Al Carlson was concerned that because campus police are state employees, the state constitution requires the money to go into the schools trust fund.
Carlson asked for the opinion after the state Supreme Court ruled that NDSU police do not have arrest powers off campus.
An attorney involved in the case earlier said that the dollar amount of fines in question was hundreds of thousands of dollars.
