UND Holds Grand Opening for High Performance Athletic Center
UND is inviting the public to check out its brand new, $19 million dollar athletic facility.
The new high performance center houses a 100 yard football field and 8 lane 300 meter track.
The total building is 156,000 square feet making it the largest indoor athletic facility in the Upper Midwest.
The track’s surface is the same surface used in the Olympics.
UND has been looking to get this facility completed for the past 20 years and thanks to more than 300 donors, the football team can finally move their practices indoors.
“When we kind of don’t have a spring sometimes. When it’s 30 below and the wind is blowing and the snow is horizontal those kinds of things it’s pretty hard to have a meaningful practice for the football team. So now they can come in, they’ve already been in eight times with different weather issues and I think track had their first two practices last week in here,” says UND Athletic Director, Brian Faison.
Altru Healthcare, Scheels and UND Alumni Association were the biggest sponsors for the facility.
