Washington Elementary Holding Candy Drive for Troops
Washington Elementary is holding a candy drive for troops over sea.
Over the course of one week, students from the gifted services program collected donations.
People donated leftover Halloween candy and toiletries.
This is the second year of the drive.
They doubled their goal from last year with 200 pounds of donations.
“It’s just a way to say ‘thank you for your service,’ and just to recognize that our freedom doesn’t come without a price. We need to make sure that we’re thanking the troops and the people who are there fighting for our freedom, to give them a little bit of a thank you,” says Gifted Services Instructor, Stephanie Newland.
Donations will be sent to Operation Gratitude, where the organization will send the care packages to troops.
There is still one more day left to donate.
Candy and personal hygiene items can be left at Washington Elementary School before 3:30 Tuesday afternoon.
