Fargo Mayor and Local Businesses Kick Off Small Business Saturday Early
It’s a week away from Thanksgiving, but city leaders are already promoting “local” Christmas shopping.
Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney joined local business owners downtown for a “Coffee Kickoff” at Nicole’s Fine Pastry for Small Business Saturday.
After Black Friday, Small Business Saturday encourages people to shop at locally owned stores instead of big box retailers.
Mayor Mahoney highlighted what small businesses bring to a community.
“They bring culture, creativity, and uniqueness to give our community flavor, and make it stand out for the rest. It also gives you that nice smell that you smell in here that makes you hungry,” explains Mayor Mahoney.
Forbes reports that customers spent more than $14 billion at local businesses nationwide during Small Business Saturday in 2014.
