Becker County Jail Could Stay Put
A move might not be necessary for the Becker County Jail expansion.
Instead, officials are looking to build up, adding a third floor along with a mezzanine.
The jail would feature a modular design allowing staff to have full view of all inmates.
The jail currently has a linear design, with narrow hallways.
The expansion is needed to house the growing number of inmates as crime continues to rise across the state.
“When the court house addition was added a few years ago it was designed to work with our jail as far as taking prisoners to and from court so that’s already in place, so it would make sense for us to stay here,” says Becker County Sheriff, Todd Glander.
The jail currently houses between 30 to 40 inmates.
With the new expansion, the jail could hold up to 180 inmates.
A meeting to discuss the building plan will be held December 1st.
