SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Dexter Werner recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and the North Dakota State men’s basketball team limited IUPUI to 29-percent shooting to earn a 60-45 victory in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament on Sunday evening.
NDSU advances to play top-seeded IPFW in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Monday night inside the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.
It was Werner’s fourth double-double of the season. Sophomores A.J. Jacobson and Paul Miller added 14 and 12 points, respectively, for NDSU. Senior Kory Brown pulled down 11 rebounds.
IUPUI shot 15-for-51 (29 percent) in the game. It was the third time this season the Bison held a league opponent under 30-percent shooting. IUPUI’s 45 points were a season-low for the Jaguars, as well as for all NDSU opponents.
NDSU held a 23-22 lead at halftime after both teams shot below 30 percent in the first 20 minutes. The Bison strung together a 12-0 run over a stretch of three minutes early in the second half to turn a four-point deficit into an eight-point lead. The run started with a bucket in the lane from Brown, then included seven points by Werner and a trey from Jacobson.
NDSU extended its lead to 13 points at 51-38 following a three-pointer by Miller with 3:42 remaining.
The Bison will play No. 1 seed IPFW in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Monday night on Midco Sports Network and ESPN3. Tickets for the semifinal round are available on Ticketmaster or at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center box office starting at 10 a.m. Monday.
