Minnesota Lawmakers Working on State’s Driver’s License Dispute

Minnesota’s Senate has taken the first step toward resolving a dispute with the federal government over driver’s licenses.

The Senate voted 63-2 to launch a study on how to comply with the Real ID Act.

Upgraded licenses will be necessary to board domestic flights by October 2020.

Lawmakers are expecting state officials to present a plan for satisfying the federal government in the coming weeks.

Some legislators say they still have concerns about the cost, privacy and federal overreach.

The House is expected to act later this week.
