UND Goalie Cam Johnson: “He’ll Do Just Fine”

Today is the day!

The UND Men’s Hockey team goes up against Denver for a chance to go to the National Championship.

We’re just as ready as the 400 to 500 biggest UND fans you’ve ever seen are.

Obviously, we’re excited and ready to go.  We’re still about an hour and change until they drop the puck .

This is the sixth meeting.  That’s the one prevailing thing we’ve talked about over and over.

These two teams know each other as well as you possibly can coming into a Frozen Four matchup.

So the key for UND on this end is Cam Johnson.

The goaltender has been sensational really, all season long.

You think about the drop off between him and Zane McIntyre from last year and there really isn’t any.

When you think about what he’s done against Denver, particularly two home wins against the Pioneers.

The first one, a five to one victory, the second one, a four nothing victory and that four nothing win actually started Johnson’s historic shutout streak where he went…250 minutes without allowing a goal.

He’s been incredible all season long.

He’s passed every single test he’s taken so it’s no surprise how confident Brad Berry is in his netminder.

“One hundred percent confident.  He’s been on a stage before like this, albeit, in the USHL.  He’s gone to the finals in the Clark Cup Finals in the USHL.  He was the go-to guy and he’s played in high pressure situations before.  It’ll be no different for him.  We play in the Ralph, where you get 12,000 a night and those NCHC games are wars.  They’re battles every single night against the seven opponents we have in this league.  He’s been in front of that all the time so again, he’s well versed in it, and he’ll do just fine,” said Coach Berry.

No question Johnson is going to be huge for UND if he can keep the Pios off the board, particularly early.

That will really set the tone for this Fighting Hawk team.
