RC Plane Park Could Come to East Grand Forks

Remote control pilots could soon have a new place to lift off from in East Grand Forks, and that has some people concerned.

An RC fliers group has asked the city to use this lot on the corner of 8th Avenue Northwest and 23rd Street Northwest.

City Administrator David Murphy tells us he’s gotten a few calls from people worried about noise issues that the planes could bring.

He says the park would be used mostly by people with toy planes, not drones, which are becoming increasingly popular.

But he stresses the city is far from any formal agreement with hobbyists.

Murphy says, “There is not universal support on the council for this particular site, so what we would do now is bring it to the council, and they could potentially take a vote on it.”

If the city moves forward with the proposal, a public input meeting would be scheduled before any agreement is formalized.
