United Way Celebrates “May Day” Book Giveaway

Over 1,000 books are going out to children in the community, all compliments of United Way.

The book giveaway is the way volunteers from the organization are celebrating “May Day”.

Volunteers were out at child care centers across the area reading and distributing books.

Organizer say it’s a way they hope to get kids excited about reading at an early age.

“Our hope is that the kids take these homes, and read them with their families tonight, and keep that excitement going together for reading. That’s really what United Way is about — making sure kids are prepared for school, and they’ll be prepared for life if they can read at an early age,” said Kristina Hein of United Way.

This is the fifth annual United Way May Day book give away.
