NDSU Opera Sails In With New Stage Design For Classic Show

HMS Pinafore has a long history with NDSU.

This is the third time NDSU has performed this show.

The first dates back to 1904.

NDSU Opera changed the setting from its classic 19th century tale to the 1980s “Love Boat” theme.

This transformation was made by the stage director and students who spent more than a year on the details.

“This is a university production. So it’s student involvement and production is of paramount importance because it’s a learning opportunity for them to learn how we put on a production in a professional world,” stage director Chelsea Pace.
 
The comic opera tells the story of a young girl falling for a sailor.
