West Nile Virus Found in Wahpeton
Those who are 60 and older are at the greatest risk for serious illness.
West Nile virus has been found in Wahpeton.
The city’s vector control conducts daily tests, and a pool of mosquitoes tested positive.
Mosquitoes are most active just before sundown and through the early mornings.
It’s recommended that you use repellent with deet and eliminate pools of water around homes.
City officials in Wahpeton say they operate as if the virus is always present and will continue their usual protocols.
“We do a steady basis of spraying when we have West Nile virus present. We have a certain count that we keep track of– if it reaches that count we spray,” says Brenda Romreim of Wahpeton Vector Control.
The city sends out a public service announcement whenever they do spray.
Fever and rashes are mild symptoms of the virus.
