Essentia Fitness: Outdoor Exercises with Your Family
Spending time with family is important but so is your health.
We visited with Essentia Health Physical Therapist Christine Isaak on Family outdoor workouts. So tell me what are some good exercises that families can do at home?
“One of the big things that I encourage families to do is set aside some time, in the evening, or during the day if you have the day off and make the rearrangement and say,’ hey, let’s take a 30 minute walk.’ Go for a wagon ride, go look for frogs. A lot of neighborhoods have local parks now. So there are plenty of exercises that you can do at parks. Right now, you’re working out the triceps. Let’s head over to the swings I want to show you the exercises to do on the swings here. A couple of things I like to do is a kind of a full body workout. If you have an open swing here like this, being able to grab up top a little bit above shoulder height, you want to tuck your knees in and jump over the swing. Give it a shot. Then there’s another one that I like to do here. You can get your feet on the swing and do a reverse sit up. You can also do some push-ups here too. So plenty of things you can do outside at the park. You certainly don’t need to buy equipment but yeah, it’s kind of a little quick park workout,” Isaak says.
