Governor Suspends McKenzie County Sheriff for Alleged Bullying
Gov. Dalrymple has moved forward with the decision to suspend the McKenzie County Sheriff after an investigation by the state.
Sheriff Gary Schwartzenberger was in Morton County helping with law enforcement patrol at the Dakota Access pipeline protest sites when BCI agents tracked him down to deliver the news.
Schwartzenberger is accused of forming a workplace environment of bullying and a militant style of policing.
The McKenzie County Commission asked Gov. Dalrymple to remove Schwartzenberger after an independent investigation.
Schwartzenberger says he looks forward to the truth coming out and that the commission has five days to elect an interim sheriff to fill the position while he is on suspension.
