League of Women Voters’ First Friday and Food Sustainability

The League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley hosted the First Friday event.

The First Friday event is held to encourage participation and inform people on what’s happening in their community.

Megan Myrdal, Project Coordinator of the Cass-Clay Food Commission said the public needs to be educated on how to make healthy choices.

“Just telling people or educating people is not enough,” said Myrdal. “We need to build the environment that supports those healthy food choices, so we need to make it easy, affordable, and accessible for people to choose healthy food.”

Myrdal also talked about the need for more farmers markets in the area and to put more healthy options into corner and grocery stores.
