Backwater Bridge Determined To Be Structurally Sound

The bridge will not repoen until no more "criminal activity" will take place

CANNON BALL, N.D. — State officials say a bridge where many Dakota Access protesters clashed with police is structurally sound. The Backwater Bridge, north of Cannon Ball, closed in October when protesters blocked it with burning vehicles.

After taking core samples in December, the State Department of Transportation say it is sound, but needs repairs. Authorities say they will not reopen the bridge until they think no more “criminal activity” will take place there.
