Massive Fatberg Takes Over London’s Sewer System
British engineers said it will take three weeks to remove the 820 foot long blob that weighs in at about 130 tons
LONDON — Fatberg. That’s the name given to the congealed lump of diapers and wet wipes that are clogging London’s sewer system.
This is one of the largest Fatbergs ever found.
British engineers said it will take three weeks to remove the 820 foot long blob that weighs in at about 130 tons.
Workers use high-powered jet hoses to break up the mass, which is then sucked into tankers and taken to a recycling station.
A Fatberg is made up of things people flush down their toilets that don’t get broken down.
It costs the water company $1 million a month clearing blockages in the sewers.
