Fargo Cass Public Health Hosts Third Drug “Take Back” of the Summer

The program started in 2009

FARGO, N.D. — North Dakota is one of the only states in the country to have permanent take back drug locations.

Every once in awhile though some places around the community will have a temporary location, including Fargo Cass Public Health. This is the third take back they’ve hosted this summer, already collecting 120 pounds of over the counter and prescription drugs between June and July. Often times people bring huge bags of their unwanted pills to be destroyed.

“They’ve heard ‘you shouldn’t flush them down the toilet, you probably shouldn’t just put them in the garbage.’ I think that they know something special needs to be done with them and so they kind of stockpile them until they find of a place or hear of an event where they can drop them off.”

The state attorney general’s office started the program in 2009. More than eleven tons of drugs has been collected.
