Blue Cross Blue Shield Celebrates National Walk @ Lunch Day

Employees take a walk during their lunch break to increase physical activity

FARGO, N.D. — It’s National Walk at Lunch Day, and Blue Cross Blue Shield companies across the country are turning their working lunches into walking lunches.

Blue Cross Blue Shield North Dakota has been taking part for about ten years.

Employees take a lap around the outside of the building during lunch time.

Experts say walking at a pace of three miles per hour decreases the risk of developing heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

“It’s easy as going out for a walk and enjoying the benefits of  a simple walk during the day. It can complement your lifestyle rather than compete with it. You just have to find those opportunities to go out, get away from your desk for a little bit and get some activity,” Jacinta Riedinger, manager of wellness services at BCBS, said.

Blue Cross Blue Shield also has other wellness opportunities through their worksite wellness program.
