FARGO, N.D. — Last year alone, the Emergency Food Pantry in Fargo gave out over two million pounds worth of food to people who would’ve otherwise gone hungry.
“The people I’ve been able to meet are families who, it’s that one thing that places them over the top. A car battery, a medical condition,” says the Emergency Food Pantry Executive Director Stacie Loegering.
She says without the generosity of the Fargo-Moorhead community, the Food Pantry’s work wouldn’t be possible; the work that thousands of families in the area rely on to survive.
“You need nutrition. You need to take care of your body. You need to know where you’re going to eat next in order to be able to make those other decisions in your life.”
But for the day, a collaboration between the Food Pantry, Oak Grove Lutheran School, and the Master Chorale of Fargo-Moorhead is feeding the community something else.
The “Feed Your Heart” Giving Hearts Day kickoff concert is hoping to fuel people’s generosity.
“It’s feeding your mind, body and spirit, and so it’s just kind of a collaboration of three of us that are a part of Giving Hearts Day of coming together and saying, ‘You know, the Giving Day is about collaboration,” says Loegering.
“A rising tide lifts all ships, and if we can partner with other organizations in a way to share our message with those that we’re committed to, it just helps everyone out,” says Matthew Hallaway with Oak Grove Lutheran School.
And what better way to do that than with a little music?
“Music can bring people together. It’s fun to see, you know, the harmony and the coming together of those voices and different institutions just like Giving Hearts Day, coming together for a greater cause,” says Hallaway.
Which they hope will inspire people to come together, not only this Thursday, but all year long.
You can make an online donation to any nonprofit participating in Giving Hearts Day now through tomorrow or on Thursday.
