Cleanup underway after 21,000-gallon oil well spill

WILLISTON, N.D. – Cleanup is underway after 21,000 gallons of crude oil spilled at a well east of Williston.

State Oil and Gas Division officials say the release at the Equinor Energy LP well was due to a valve failure.

Officials say the oil was contained on-site and all but about 400 gallons had been recovered as of Wednesday afternoon.

A state inspector has been sent to the location and will monitor additional cleanup.
