LIVE: Getting The Red, White and Blues

FARGO — Just in time for the 100th anniversary of the creation of George Gershwin’s beloved “Rhapsody in Blue,” a new homage by a modern-day American composer is coming for the first time to North Dakota.

And this weekend, you can hear it for yourself, thanks to the FM Symphony Orchestra and this week’s guest artist.

Guest artist Jeffrey Biegel joins them for their new masterworks concert, “American Celebration.”

They’ll feature works by Gershwin and other great American composers like Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein.

Biegel gave the Morning Show a sneak preview of the show by playing the piece “Rhapsody in Red, White and Blue,” a tribute to “Rhapsody in Blue,” composed by Peter Boyer, also an American.

Biegel’s on a mission to bring the piece to each of the fifty states in the U.S.

He and FM Symphony Orchestra Maestro Christopher Zimmerman, along with the symphony’s Mindy Heitkamp, joined the Morning Show to talk about why these works have such a uniquely American sound, and what else the symphony is planning for the rest of the season.
